Our Rotary Community & Vocational Committee considers many areas close to home, working with many organisations to help, support and deliver on more localised projects.

Pantomime Collection
A good sized team of volunteers from the Club assisted by helpers from other charities collected at the Eden Court over the festive season. Our thanks go to the management of Eden Court for permitting this, and to the generous people of Inverness. Over £2500 was collected which will be divided between Children 1st and PolioPlus Charities.

All in an exhausting time
But afterwards time for festive spirits of another kind
Visits to Widows of Past Members
The severe weather around Christmas and New Year proved a testing time for the elderly - both in their homes (and the Council Members who were to visit them!Ed). Now that the weather is improved the visits are progressing.
Christmas Parcels.
Members of the Club delivered 57 parcels of supplies to those identified as appropriate by various organisations involved in Community Care. Thanks go to staff and management in Morrisons Supermarket who packed and supplied the parcels.
Raft Race 09
Following the sterling success in the maiden voyage of The Rotary Club of Inverness Raft in the Great River Ness Raft Race last year, an intrepid team under Captain George Verhaere risked life and limb for the glory of the Club and to raise money for the charity ‘Children 1st’.
Joining George again from last year’s crew and promoted to First Mate was Rotarian Linda Stewart, ably supported by Master Boat Builder (immediate past president) John Machin and the ‘new’ Cabin Boy Thomas Prag.
The many decorated rafts assembled at the riverside at 10am.The crews dressed up in fancy dress.
Rotary Club of Invernesscame second in our heat to a team of ‘professionals’ (lumberjacks we think!) and 5th overall in the competition.
A tremendous effort, which raised significant sponsorship from the Club membership, all of which went to the Raft Race Charity.
Icing on the cake was to again beat our rival team from Rotary Club of Loch Ness, who claimed to be taking a more sedate pace to improve the photo opportunity for the Press.

Marymas Fair 20th June 2009
Each year the Rotary Club of Inverness supports the Crossroads charity at the Annual Marymass Fair, held in the Bught Park in Inverness. The Rotary Club of Inverness have over a number of years run a very successful and popular fast food outlet.
Work starts early in the morning with the ceremonial slicing of the rolls in anticipation of the many hungry mouths to feed throughout the day.
A wide range of soft drinks, burgers, bacon rolls and hot dogs are sold through the day. This is a major undertaking for the Club but raised over £1200 for Crossroads this year.
There are people in fancy dress and a large number of stalls selling a wide range of goods run by other charities.
Over 20 Rotarians and wives took part, working in shifts through the day.
Members of Loch Ness Club were present displaying
a Shelter Box
A good day out for all.
